2012 Joint Lenten Services: The Agony of the Cross

“The Agony of the Cross” is the theme of the 2012 Joint Lenten Services.

The first service is Sunday, February 26th at the Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Dick Vesttus beginning the series by considering the Anticipation of the Cross.

Helping Hands Pantry committee members will serve a sacrificial supper from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, and on the next five Sundays, the Senior High Youth Group will serve soup and sandwiches.

The freewill offerings from all six meals will be given to the Community Youth Group for their mission trip to Mexico.

Offerings of food items will be received at each service. The Pantry item needed the first week is canned chicken or tuna.

Monetary offerings will also be received and will be used toward the counseling services provided in Platte and the cost of labor to install a new roof on the building housing Platte’s Helping Hands Food Pantry.

All services begin at 7:00 p.m. and are followed by a time of fellowship and coffee.

The Helping Hands Pantry 2/26

The Helping Hands Pantry will sponsor a sacrificial meal on Sunday, February 26th from 5:30-6:30 at the Christian Reformed Church prior to the first Community Lenten Service.

In effort to focus on hunger around the world, one half-cup of rice will be served. Please come and show your support, and consider what we can do to address these needs.

A free-will donation will be taken and will be used toward the Community Youth Group’s mission trip to Mexico.

“Like Dandelion Dust” movie tonight

Karen Kingsbury’s book, Like Dandelion Dust, was made into a movie and will be shown at the Platte Lyric Theater on Wednesday, February 15 at 7:30 pm.

A synopsis of her story is:

Joey lives an idyllic life with his parents on the coast of Florida. His days are spent playing with his cousins, sailing with his dad, and making up stories with his mom.

It’s a perfect life until the day they receive a disturbing phone call: a stranger’s decision could tear Joey away from the comfort and security of the only home he’s ever known.

One family is determined to keep the son they love, the other is determined to begin a new life, the life they’ve always dreamed of. Joey’s future rests in their hands and someone must make the bravest decision of their life.

Sometimes the greatest love is letting go.

A free-will donation will go towards the theater’s new equipment.
